Learning how to manipulate and visualise protein structures

proteins

Before the session

Here’s a quick checklist to prepare before the session, it won’t take more than 30 minutes.

1) Your Eduroam credentials (or a way of connecting to the Internet)

According to the training room we’re in, you won’t necessarily be able to use an Ethernet cable (this would also only work for I2BC laptops).

We recommend you to have your Eduroam login and password (cf. the CNRS website) with you the day of the training in order to connect to the internet (it’s not the same credentials as the I2BC Multipass ones!). If you don’t have Eduroam, you can try creating a Guest Wifi account (see intranet).

2) Install ChimeraX

We’ll be using ChimeraX in order visualise and manipulate protein structures, please try to install it beforehand in order to save time on the day of the training.

ChimeraX should be installable from your CEA or I2BC app store. If not, it’s easily installable from their website (https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimerax/download.html) but this might require local admin rights.

3) Install the ISOLDE plugin for ChimeraX

We’ll be using the ISOLDE plugin in ChimeraX to draw Ramachandran maps so if you have time to install it before the session, it would be great (it doesn’t take long): Open up ChimeraX, go in the Tools > More Tools menu, search for ISOLDE and click on install. Then restart ChimeraX and ISOLDE should appear as an extra tab in your Tool bar.

Congrats!!! that’s all you need to do to prepare the session

We’ll see the rest on the day itself together 🙂
